Water Color

Watercolor painting is the first artistic endeavor for the residents, guided by the renowned local artist Chen Baochuan. He leads the residents to use branches from large maple trees as brushes, dip them in paint, and suggests cutting the paper into hexagons. This allows the residents' artworks to be assembled into a "hive" from different angles, presenting the residents of the Valley of Hope's "Nest of Love."

Nagomi Art (Pastel)

Nagomi Art, originating from Japan, is a therapeutic pastel drawing art form founded by Mr. Hosoya Norikatsu. In June 2018, Senator Chen Yanni introduced her expertise in pastel painting to the residents in the hospital, teaching them to create pastel artworks. Surprisingly, the residents became increasingly joyful after learning pastel art. They painted beloved subjects such as cats, Jesus, Buddha, Guanyin, and Malayan tapirs. At the end of the year, Senator Chen Yanni initiated the "Art from the Heart of Hope" pastel painting charity auction, successfully raising funds for the Xiantu Temple's charity fund. This event has continued annually, with residents participating in the first Malaysian pastel exhibition recommended by the Japanese founder in late 2018.

Sketching

Directed by the gallery's curator, Teacher Yew Souf, this involves drawing on yellowed old book pages, which are then pasted onto art paper. The theme of the exhibit is "My Good Friends." To create a large maple tree for display, 2,000 drawings were needed, prompting residents, medical staff, volunteers, and children to participate in this pioneering initiative at the Valley of Hope. The artworks portray the residents' background stories and memories, emphasizing the importance of preserving cultural heritage.
